Top 5 Non-Horror Halloween Movies

Blogoween!

Hello my scary book dragons and welcome back to my spooktacular blog! Today is day 20 of blogoween! Halloween is quickly approaching and besides trick or treating for free candy (you’re never too old!), one of my favorite things to do is curl up with a great movie. What movie you might ask? Well as luck would have it, that is the prompt I’m answering today:

My Top 5 Non-Horror Halloween Movies

This prompt is from a blogoween host at The Bursting Bookshelf!

I was so thrilled to see this topic as a prompt! I know for some that Halloween is a time to watch as many scary movies as possible, and there are such a large selection to pick from. However, horror movies don’t really float my boat the way they do others. That doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of Halloween movies to watch though! Here’s my list of my top 5 go to horror free Halloween movies!

  • Hocus Pocus – I believe Hocus Pocus is an absolute classic and must watch for Halloween. I watched it almost every year with my family and even in college, I went out and bought the movie because I couldn’t stand the thought of Halloween without it!
  • Halloween Town – Halloween Town just seemed like a no brainer. This was a childhood favorite and I still get really excited to watch it! One year my family took a trip to a part of the set and was able to stand in front of the giant pumpkin and see some of the shops in the town. It was such an amazing experience!
  • The Corpse Bride – I adore Tim Burton and the majority of his movies could classify as a proper Halloween movie. I selected The Corpse Bride because I watched it for the first time years ago around Halloween and rewatched it every October since then.
  • Coraline – Coraline is one of my favorite movies and I can’t believe I only just found out it was a book as well. This movie from the plot to the filming is fantastic – its creepy, creative, beautifully designed and just fantastic. I would watch this any time of the year but its especially great to watch on Halloween!
  • Scooby Doo – any of the Scooby Doo’s work perfectly (it was one of my favorite shows growing up) but the one I have in mind is Scooby Doo and Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, the two live action versions. There is a spooky vibe from all the monsters and mysteries, and a healthy dose of humor which makes this a fun Halloween movie to watch!

Those are my top five non-horror Halloween movies! Do you like or dislike horror movies? What do you think of my choices? What are your favorite Halloween movies? Let me know down in the comments!

Good Hunting!

    1. I’m glad to hear you agreed with my list! And Coraline isn’t Halloween based but I like watching it around Halloween and the spooky vibe fits in with the Halloween spirit which is how it ended up on my list. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Great list! I think Coraline is scary for little kids. My daughter was 3 and she got scared watching it. Plus, it freaked me out. lol, Since then I have yet to introduce them to movies like A Nightmare Before Christmas (which I love!)

    1. Thanks! I could see it being scary for little kids especially the more creepy scenes, it even creeped me out the first time I watched it. A Nightmare Before Christmas is fantastic!! I love anything by Tim Burton – I never know whether to count it as a Halloween or Christmas movie which is part of the reason I picked The Corpse Bride for this list. Thanks for stopping by!
